Quilt 23 is probably one of my favorites – I had a really hard time giving it away; but, give it away I did: to my very good friend who turned 23 this year. Which means quilt #23 was a 23-rd birthday gift, sewn out of the fabric line 2wentyThre3 by Julie Comstock for Moda Fabrics.
I’d been hoarding a layer cake of the fabric for over a year when I stumbled upon Material Girl Quilts’ Layer Cake Sampler Quilt A-long. I had planned to follow the quilt-along all the way through with this layer cake, but the more I looked at the blocks, the more I was drawn to the “Happy Stars” block – and the more I wanted to make an entire quilt using just the “Happy Stars” block.
I bound the finished quilt with three colors of bias tape – all corresponding to colors in the fabric. For quilting, I just followed the various rows of half-square-triangles and stitched in the ditch. I didn’t want anything to distract from the fun block pattern.
And that, my friends, is 23 quilts blogged and only 3 more to go!
