“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” ~ Bruce Lee
Ever had one of those days where you feel like the world is against you? One of those weeks where everything is just exhausting? It is then that this quote speaks to me most. Instead of becoming frigid, fighting against any obstical will full-stubborn force is tiring, and ineffective. Instead, flexibility and persistence is the better route-though it is more difficult. It’s then that I need to remember to be like a river, carving out the easiest and most efficient path with as little force as necessary. Change the path, but don’t steer straight toward the impervious. Instead, follow the cracks. Exploit the spaces. And find your room to grow where no room appears to be.
Be like water my friends, like water.
